A Self-Help Guide For Natural Remedies

Skin Problems Natural Treatment Home Remedy

The skin is the body's largest organ. It consists of three layers-the epidermis (outer layer), the dermis (middle layer), and the subcutaneous layer (inner layer). Because the skin acts as a shield between the body and the millions of   foreign substances that exist in our environment, it often reacts with acne, rashes, bumps, scales, redness, and other skin problems. Skin irritations are characterized by scaling, flaking, thickening, color changes, itching, cracking, and dryness. The skin excretes toxins and poisons that are present in the body, as do the kidneys and bowels.
There are many reasons for skin reactions. They  include allergies to molds, foods, chemicals, cosmetics, and other substances; insect bites; reactions to plants, as in poison ivy; diaper rash in infants; reactions to the sun and wind; rashes from parts of the body rubbing together (this often occurs in the inner thighs); reactions to drugs; reactions to detergents; reactions to alcohol; and literally thousands of other causes.

SPECIFIC SKIN CONDITIONS

Rosacea is reddening of the skin, usually the forehead, nose, cheekbones, and chin. Most often pustules do not appear except on the nose. They can be very tender. A thickening of the skin can occur. The cause of rosacea is unknown, but often spicy foods, hot liquids, alcohol, stress, excessive heat or cold, and sunlight may set off a reaction. Tetracycline is used to control rosacea along with topical medication applied to the inflammation.
Intertrigo is an eruption of the skin caused by two skin surfaces rubbing together causing friction. They groin, breasts, underarms, and inner thighs are the areas usually involved. These areas provide an environment for the growth of bacteria or yeast (see CANDIDIASIS, Part Two). These organisms may cause ulcerations. Treatment of this disorder involves keeping the skin surface clean, dry and free of friction. A hair dryer on a cool setting may be helpful when used several times a day along with baby powder. Add garlic, soured products, and acidophilus to the diet.
Sebaceous cysts develop as a small swelling on the face, scalp, or back These subcutaneuos nodules of sebum often becomes chronically infected. If the growth becomes large or infected, it should removed to prevent the spread of infection.
